Curiously the synthetic sounds are HUGE compared to the accoustic ones, indicating IMHO they spent more time on the sounds that don't sound like anything REAL than they did the ones that are supposed to be normal instruments. In terms of samples used in playback most of them are quite acceptable, though the synthetic 'ring' present in most synthesizers are still quite noticeable on the woodwind and brass patches. The instrument bank and the sounds that comes with the default software are doing the job but they could be better. You can also use any device recognized as an "audio output" by Windows. You will need an amplifier that can accept an audio jack input if you want something louder. Otherwise the sound comes from whatever speakers you have plugged into the computer. It's easy to setup in Windows and you indeed just need to plug in headphones to the computer.
